Alpine Shop and Big River Running concluded the 2012 Off-Road Racing League Trail Run Series on Thursday, August 30, with a 3.89 mile run that included Castlewood State Park’s infamous stairs down from the cliff-tops. 129 racers completed the run, setting new attendance records for the series and providing a fitting send-off for the 2012 races. Brian Lyons completed his series sweep for the second straight year with a final time of 26:16.8 (pace 6:07). Lyons has won the last nine races of the Trail Run Series and organizers hope he’ll return to defend his championship in 2013. In the women’s race, Sunny Gilbert returned to the top spot after not appearing in last week’s race. Gilbert had won the previous seven trail run series races prior to last week. She completed the course in a time of 30:43.4.  In the junior division, Sloane Montgomery was the top finisher with a time of 39:33.1.
