RESULTS: 12-2-23 | 45 Down Does It Again

In the 19th edition of the Castlewood 8 Hour Adventure Race, we saw a first from Race Directors, Carrie and Jeff Sona, in the form of an urban race like we’ve never seen before.

This year racers started at the Crestwood Community Center at Whitecliff Park were they had several options of how to start their race. Some teams elected to start on foot with an orienteering section in the park, while others got on their bikes to take a tour of parks in the West County area. Kirkwood Park was the sight of the second orienteering section, then teams rode their bikes to Simpson Lake and Grand Glaize Creek for 4-5 mile paddle. From there, teams could ride down in the Meramec River Recreation Area where they would take two laps around the Dirt Crit course. From there it was an uphill climb to Laumeier Sculpture Park for another orienteering course then an all out sprint back to Whitecliff.

For the 3rd consecutive year, 45 Down took the top step at the podium with a blistering time of 4:47:46 followed by Toporadicals and RibWhackers to round out the podium.

A big thank you to our sponsors, Optimal Performance Center, for coming out and taking care of our racers and Schlafly, for bringing the party. Other sponsors included Terrain MagazineThe North FaceGreat Harvest in Kirkwood, Camelbak, and PROBAR for hooking up our racers with some fuel to keep them going for the full 8 hours. And a huge shoutout goes to Kuat who has continually supported this race by hooking us up with a rack to give away to a lucky racer. None of this would have been possible without Carrie and Jeff Sona and all of their hard work in designing the course.

Mark your calendars for December 7, 2024!
