BALLWIN, MO- Week 3 of the Alpine Shop Trail Run Series had a much milder start with weather. Racers took off with temperatures in the low 80s and a nice breeze: perfect for an ice-cold Schlafly beer at the finish line.
This week’s course featured everything from the water crossing and lily pad filled ponds from last week to a little more tree cover, helicopters, and meadows that we’ve yet to feature in a race at Queeny Park. And just like every other race, Optimal Performance Centers was there to get everyone ready and Paul from Great Harvest Kirkwood brought the goods once again with some snacks. Schalfly beer always brings the party with their signature Pale Ale, Hazy IPA, and Park Lager.
This week for the Overall race and the Men’s Open division we saw a familiar result. Stallis (32), Rains (31), Defani (44) which matched Race 1 as Andy Rains rebounded back into 2nd place this week, moving him into sole position of 2nd place in the overall points. On the Women’s side, Kelley McGaughey (41) made her way to first place after consecutive 2nd place finishes. Christine Edwards (42) continued to improve this week with a podium finish good for second place for the first time this series, while Savannah Gagnon (27) maintained her 3rd place step for a second week in a row.
The Masters category saw Chris Bognar (53) continue his dominance for the series as he secured the Mens Masters win before we even toe the line for race 4. Kent Boyer (52) hit his stride for another 2nd place finish and Dennis Martin (50) finished on the podium for the first time this year in 3rd. Jen Ullery (51) won the Women’s Masters race again ahead of Anne Arias (54) in 2nd and Susan Richmond (62) in 3rd who is our current Overall leader, but things could get interesting going into the 4th race of the series with the points totals.
