GREY SUMMIT, MO- The annual Shaw Bloom Trail 10k/20k started with some gorgeous weather with a cool start in the 50s that gradually warmed a bit as the sun came out of hiding. Shaw had seen some rain with big storms moving through Thursday night, but the course was in great shape and poppin’ with bloom as 34 racers took off at 8:30am for the 20k followed by 138 racers for the 10k single loop at 9am.
The 20k had an early start with the group of Ryan Roe, Blake Welch, and Alex Ferguson leading the way for the entire race. At the end of lap one, Ryan Roe had dropped to 3rd with Alex and Blake pacing each other up the brutal climb to the line. The end resulted in a overall win for Blake Welch with a time of 1:37:24.2 followed by Alex then Ryan to round out the Men’s 20k Overall podium.
Kelley McGaughey, the defending Trail Run Series Women’s Champion, held up to her title with another win. Not far behind was Jen Ullery and Virginia Wilson as they claimed their spots on the steps.
The 10k race saw some familiar faces as well with Mike Klaus punching his ticket to victory as the overall winner with a time of 48:39.4 with Ben Rohan in second and Roderic Kerner finishing third.
Stephanie Hedgesbeth won the Women’s 10k race with a time of 54:42.8 (results will be updated) followed by Hailey Carmichael and Colette Pippin.
Next year’s race is tentatively set for April 12th, so we plan to see everyone back for another beautiful trail run!!!
