2020 Castlewood 8-Hr Adventure Race
Race Update #1
12-Oct-20
Greetings, adventure racers!
We are less than 8 weeks away from RACE DAY and have our first RACE UPDATE ready for you! In this email, you will find more details about race registration, transfers, AR101, and our permit status.
Race Registration:
We hope you are enjoying the fall weather and using the cooler temperatures as an opportunity to safely get outside! Here at Race HQ, registrations are rapidly approaching full capacity and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you in December. We only have a few spots left for new teams, and we need all current teams to complete their full team roster if they haven’t done so already. Head on over to our Registered Teams list and double-check that your team is listed accurately. If you notice any errors, please notify Emily at ekorsch@alpineshop.com. If you notice your teammates are missing from the official Registered Teams list, start bugging them to complete their registration!
Transfers/Registration Changes:
We can accommodate transfers between divisions at no cost to you. Also in 2020, we are providing full refunds to anyone who needs to withdraw due to COVID-19 concerns. Please be considerate and notify us about these changes as early as possible. If we enter a waitlist situation, a change with your team may allow a waitlisted team to participate, and it’s only fair that we give everyone as much notice as possible.
AR101:
Last week, we held our first virtual AR101 class, focusing on Navigation and Trekking. If you weren’t able to attend the Facebook Live stream, it’s archived here. We have three more AR101 classes remaining in October, with the second one being tonight at 7PM CT on our Facebook Event page.. We loved seeing your comments during class last week, and we hope to have more of the same for the three remaining AR10 classes!
Please join us for free registration into AR101 (classroom instruction) and AR201 (outdoor instruction). Sign up here using the code OSPREYPACKS20 for free registration.
Permit Status:
We are continuing to work with our land managers to issue permits for this year’s race. While we don’t have official confirmation, we have had many productive exchanges and are optimistic that our permits will be approved. Part of the approval process is our COVID-19 Plan, which will be sent to all racers and volunteers when complete. Currently, it includes designing the entire event to allow for and encourage social distancing (i.e. minimizing crowds of people), as well as requiring face coverings when within 6′ of a non-teammate. Our pre- and post-race festivities, as well as interactions with race staff/volunteers, will certainly look different, but we are committed to producing a challenging event as well as supporting the health of our adventure racing community.
Thanks for reading! If you have any further specific questions, please send them to Emily at ekorsch@alpineshop.com to get an answer!
Your Race Directors,
Emily & Erl.
