GREY SUMMIT, Mo- The 2023 Shaw Bloom Trail 10k/20k saw some drastic changes this year as the race was pushed back to give the best bloom we’ve ever had! Weather was almost perfect with temperatures in the 60’s and the sun was shining as we had 146 runners toe the line for both races with 114 racers for the 10k and 32 for the 20k for a course that featured more single track than any race before.
In the 20k race, Carson Rohan left the line like a rocket and didn’t look back on his way to victory by a margin of over 10 minutes with a time of 1:27:20.8. Next up was the battle between Kyle Mann and Courtney Bergheger for 2nd and 3rd overall, with Courtney finishing first in the Women’s Open 20k with a time of 1:41:50.9, followed by Skylar Simon and Meghan Schrik. Ryan Roe finished 3rd in the 20k Men’s Open category.
On the Men’s 10k side, Jason Lievanos led the pack with a 45:01.3 followed by Ben Rohan and Mike Klaus in hot pursuit, just 12 seconds behind him. As for the Women’s race, Shanna Brinker took home the top prize with a 49:09.7 time with Kat Humlicek in second place and Linda Wesolowski trailed by 13 seconds to round out the podium.
Participants had their fill of a variety of beer sponsored by Schlafly and plenty to eat with snacks and the ever so popular Power Bars from Great Harvest in Kirkwood. Dr. Laiderman and Dr. Specht from Optimal Performance Centers were there taking care of all of our athletes and helping with their recovery. Ross from Hoka One One was there with some Speedgoats and Challengers and two lucky racers went home with a new pair of Hokas!
Mark your calendars for next year as we anticipate our return to Shaw Nature Reserve taking place around the same weekend. We hope to see all of you at Trail Run Series in August. Registration is open now here!
