BALLWIN, MO — When a heat wave finally broke, Queeny Park delivered the kind of night trail runners dream about—80 degrees, a few clouds, and plenty of shade. Race 3 of the 2025 Alpine Shop Trail Run Series had the weather on its side, but the course had a few tricks up its sleeve.
At just 3.6 miles, tonight’s distance was shorter than the first two weeks, but the return of the infamous roller-coaster stretch of Hawk Ridge Trail made sure no one had it easy. Those relentless ups-and-downs, especially after a first mile and a quarter that were mostly up-hill, tested legs, lungs, and strategy, and left their mark on finish times.
Men’s Open Division
None of that mattered to Steven Stallis (34), who extended his dynasty with an 11th straight Series win. Stallis clocked in just half a second slower than his victory last week, and still left daylight between himself and the field—finishing a full 50 seconds ahead of Andy Rains (32) in second. Chris Fox (47) earned his first trip to the podium this season, moving up from fourth to take third.
Women’s Open Division
After last week’s youth surge, the spotlight shifted to Annemarie Rains (33), who claimed her second win of the Series with a sharp 29:07. Hot on her heels, first-time participant Hannah Floyd (39) grabs her first podium finish in second place, just 13 seconds back. Jenn Ullery (52) doubled up, earning third overall and her third straight Masters victory. (Updated 8/287/25)
Masters Divisions
If it feels like déjà vu, you’re not wrong: the Men’s Masters podium has now been copy-pasted three weeks running. Mike Barro (57), Peter Manor (50), and Kevin Kozuszek (51) locked down 1-2-3 yet again.
On the women’s side, Jenn Ullery (52) continued her stranglehold on the division, with Susan Richmond (64) in second and Karen Carron (58) climbing into third after last week’s fourth-place finish.
Footnote
A small but notable pack of runners veered off-course at the northernmost section tonight. Those who self-reported were assessed two-minute penalties. We’re still reviewing photos and finish data—particularly in the Women’s Masters division—to ensure results are fair and accurate before next week.
Post-Race Community
The finish line feast didn’t disappoint: hot dogs and veggie burgers sizzling off the grill, washed down with cold pours courtesy of 4 Hands Brewing Co., our hometown flavor heroes.
Recovery tents were buzzing, too—thanks to the pros from Optimal Performance Centers, who’ve been keeping runners limber and race-ready since 2015. And as always, Terrain Magazine was on hand—both covering the action and lacing up to join it.
To top it off, four lucky racers headed home with premium gear: two with Altra Running certificates to shop at Alpine Shop, and two more sporting brand-new North Face Borealis Trail backpacks.
Looking Ahead
Three races down, one to go. The 2025 Alpine Shop Trail Run Series wraps up next Thursday—same park, same time, but an all-new course waiting to be conquered. With the championship on the line (and bragging rights on the grill), you won’t want to miss the grand finale.
Photos will be posted Monday—check the link and relive the action. See you at Race 4! Advance Registration is still available here through noon on Tuesday, August 26 for Race 4!
