Only two races remain in the 2014 Alpine Shop Spring Trail Run Series, and we’re announcing the course for the Thursday, May 15 race today. Featuring a couple of firsts for the series, we’ll hit the area past the train tracks for the first time as well as tackle our first creek crossing! The course should come in at about 3.86 miles and features only one major climb.
We’ll start at our usual spot near the main park shelter but instead of taking a right turn out of the starting area this time, we’ll head left and follow Kiefer Creek Road to the train tunnel and onto the River Scene Trail. From there, we’ll follow the River Scene all the way around the peninsula formed by the Meramec River (watch for some sandy spots) until we hang a right turn in the meadow back to Kiefer Creek Road. Turn left and go back under the tunnel and up the road till the entrance to our only climb begins on your left. This trail leads up to the top of the bluffs and some spectacular scenery. (This is the first time we’ve ever gone UP this section of trail. We’ve headed down it before – race 3 last summer – to end a race.) Eventually we’ll meet up with the Lone Wolf Trail down the hill like we did last week. Instead of staying on the south side of Kiefer Creek, though, this week, we’ll cross the creek and stay on the north side back to the finish.
