BALLWIN, MO. – On a beautiful night for a trail race, more than 230 people hit the trails in Castlewood State Park for the first run of Alpine Shop’s 2014 Summer Trail Run Series Presented by Columbia Sportswear. The course featured two climbs and two creek crossings over the 4.2 mile course.
Andy Koziatek continued his domination of this series from this spring’s races as he won in a time of 30:00.3, a fantastic time on a course that included the equivalent of a 10-story stair climb in less than a 10th of a mile. Koziatek won three of the four races during Alpine Shop’s Spring Trail Run Series this past May. Jack Wilkinson (30:51.4) and Kicky Maufman (31:14.3) took second and third place, respectively. Point totals will be tabulated after each race to determine final series winners. We’ll begin to announce point totals following the second race of the series.
On the women’s side, Sunny Gilbert took the first race of the series with a final time of 32:06.9. Gilbert, a long-time participant in the Trail Run Series, has never lost to another female in a Trail Run Series race she has competed in since we started posting results back in 2011. Maureen Conley (33:19.6) and Aimee DeGuire (36:48.1) finished out the top three on the ladies side.
In the men’s master’s division (over 50), Eric Buckley (33:51.5) sped away from Darryl Holman (34:51.3) and Bob Alexander (35:01.4) to take the early lead in the point standings. On the women’s side, Karen Spreitler (48:58.0) took the early lead over Robin Rivard (51:21.1) and Jean Goldsberry (53:15.8).
Next week’s race course will be announced on Monday, August 18 at 2 pm.
