BALLWIN, MO — Caleb Brackett and Aimee DeGuire finished 1st in their respective divisions (Men’s Open and Women’s Open) for the second straight week of Alpine Shop’s Summer Trail Run Series presented by Marmot. All runners were greeted with unseasonably cool weather for St. Louis in August – temperatures were in the mid-70s for the 6:15 PM race start. The course did not contain any grueling climbs, but featured a loose and technical descent in the final mile to challenge runners.
Bracket and DeGuire each turned in solid performances, with Brackett’s winning time 1 minute faster than 2nd place Jack Wilkinson, and DeGuire’s time 2 minutes faster than 2nd place female Savannah Lesher. JP LaVenture was 3rd in Men’s Open, and Jennifer Doyle was 3rd in Women’s Open.
Eric Buckley continued his dominance of the Men’s Master’s 50+ category with a win over 2nd-place Steven Worley and 3rd-place Darryl Holman. Jean Goldsberry climbed atop the Women’s Master’s 50+ category with a win over 2nd-place Bev Ofsthun and 3rd-place PJ Walsh.
The race landed on the exact birthday of two runners, new 13-year-old Savannah Lesher and new 54-year-old Darryl Holman. Each of these runners are long-time Alpine Shop Trail Run Series entrants and we weren’t surprised that they chose to run trails on their birthday. Another long-time Alpine Shop Trail Run Series entrant, Randy Hill age 72, took a spill during the course but fellow runner Mike Skembo opted to halt his race and run with Hill back to the finish. Great sportsmanship was exhibited on the trails of Castlewood!
Join us for one more week of the dirt and camaraderie of the Alpine Shop Summer Trail Run Series presented by Marmot. Yes, the course WILL go up the infamous Castlewood staircase! On-line registration is available here.
