ST. LOUIS – On one of the nicest summer nights in Trail Run Series history, participants in Race 2 tackled one of the longest courses in Series history. Covering all but one of the named trails in Queen Park, the 4.39 mile course had two main climbs and an uphill finish along the way.
After eight straight second place finishes at Trail Run Series events, Andy Rains (29) has his second straight win of the 2022 Series. Rains finished the 4.39 mile course in 26:13.4, a 6:02/mile pace and a minute and thirty seconds in front of second place finisher Jon-Paul LaVenture (40). Master’s winner Mike Barro (54) took third in a time of 28:34.3.
At post time, the women’s Open results were still being reviewed for accuracy. Anticipated winner, once again, was Amanda Eigel (45) in a time of 33:25.1.
As stated above, Barro (54), won his third straight Masters race going back to last year. Eric Buckley (59, 31:26.8) and Christopher Bognar (50, 25:59.5) both put in sub 7:15/mile paces on their way to finishes in the top three. For the women, Jen Ullery (50) once again was the top women’s master finisher in a time of 34:39.7. And just like last week, Maria Wetzel (52, 35:09.3) and Susan Richmond (61, 37:44.7) finished in second and third, respectively
Following the race, participants helped themselves to a selection of Schlafly beers along with snacks from Great Harvest Bread Co., and hot dogs off the grill. As they have done every year at the Series since 2015, Optimal Performance Center was at the finish line to provide chiropractic care and post-race massages for participants. Lucky winners also took home prizes from Hoka One One footwear.
Race 3 of the 2022 Alpine Shop Trail Run Series will take place next Thursday night, August 18 at 6:15 pm. Registrations are still available on a single race basis here.
