BALLWIN, MO. – An early morning thunderstorm managed to change tradition on the course, but it couldn’t change the standings this year on the course. Caleb Brackett took the overall win for the third straight time this year in the approximately four mile course at the Marmot Trail Run Series at Castlewood State Park.
Brackett crossed the finish line with a final time of 25:48.1, just under 30 seconds faster than second place finisher Jack Wilkinson (26:22.1). Lolenek Palecek rounded out the top three two and a half minutes later with a final time of 28:58.6.
Katie O’Brien grabbed her first win of the series on the women’s side with a final time 32:40.0. Mary White took second just over 40 seconds later (33:26.0) and Jennifer Doyle taking third in 35:06.5.
The course featured two significant ascents for the first time this series, with gradients of 15% and 11% respectively in the manner in which they were faced. The first major hill was Cardiac Hill on the Grotpeter Trail – the first time we’ve included that particular stretch of trail in the history of the Trail Run Series.
