The second race of the 2024 Alpine Shop Trail Run Series will hit the trails on August 8, 2024- at 6:15pm! We expect to welcome The North Face and On Running for this run, so feel free to try out some demo shoes this evening before taking advantage of health help from the folks at Optimal Performance Centers (either before or after the race!)
Race HQ will be at the same location as last week, nearest to the Weidman entrance (the west side of the park). Enter the park and head up the hill. Take the first left after entering the park and follow the road until it ends at the large parking lot. Race HQ is in the Northeast corner of that lot.
Race start will once again be in the Northwest corner of the parking lot, not more than a tenth of a mile walk from Race HQ, and immediately join the Hawk Ridge Trail heading North.
From Hawk Ridge we’ll make a right onto the first major trail we come across – Fox Run. We’ll complete the full length of the trail – including a stretch that you’ll tackle twice over the entirety of this run. Once you hit the lowest part of the park (you’ll cross the creek at this point), you’ll head back up hill on the same switchbacks we tackled last week. Instead of making a right at the top, though, we’ll make a left and head North for a rolling stretch of Hawk Ridge Trail (that we’ve joined once again on the opposite side of the park).
We’ll cross over the Dogwood Trail and reverse our direction from last week around the mirror lakes through the woods. As we come out of the woods, though, we’ll make a right and follow the tree line until we meet back up with Hawk Ridge. Make a left and head south for a little over a tenth of a mile. Here we first head left onto White Oak Trail and then immediately stay to the right to join Owl Creek Trail back down to the valley floor where we meet back up with Fox Run for the second time.
This time, after you cross the creek, you’ll stay to the right and cruise along the flattest stretch of trail you’ll experience (even better, it’s mostly shaded!) all the way south until you reach the unmistakable green roofline of the Corporate Picnic Shelter. Stay to the right along the trees until you’ll make a right just before the main lake. Follow the bank until we cross the spillway and head back up the hill through the trees. You’ll join a paved path near the old playground and head left towards the old playground. Stay to the right as the path joins with the sidewalk towards the Greensfelder Recreation Complex all the way towards the back parking lot.
Cross the road when you see the ramp leading up to the top parking lot (where you would have parked by the shelter). Once you’ve made it up the hill, turn right onto the paved path and follow it all the way to the finish line!
