BALLWIN, MO. -Race 2 is here! The 2021 Trail Run Series continues this Thursday, August 12. Please be aware that temperatures are expected to top 97 degrees on Thursday and be near 94 at race time. Make sure to hydrate throughout this week and take care of yourself!
The new Race HQ remains at the end of Kieffer Creek Rd as it was for last race. When you enter the park, you’ll follow the road to the gate at the train tunnel. There, you’ll show your registration ticket to the friendly Alpine Shop staff member there and they will let you through to the dedicated parking area on the south side of the park. We have over 160 spots dedicated to Trail Run Series participants.
Race HQ will be on the right hand side of the road and will feature registration before the race and food and refreshments afterwards.
Race start time will be back in front of the train tunnel at 6:15 pm. It is approximately 0.45 miles from race HQ to the starting line. (Just be prepared!)
As we did last week, we’ll head head up Kieffer Creek road, but this time we’ll stay on flat ground for a little while longer as we join up with Grotpeter trail on the left just across the bridge over Kieffer Creek Rd. We’ll then be on Grotpeter for the next 2.54 miles as it heads to the far Western side of the park and up Justin’s Trail across Reiss Rd. The trail is fairly flat for the next half mile on the top of the ridge, so get your rhythm in now after the long stretches of climbing you just finished, and get your joints ready for the downhill section you’re about to begin.
We’ll take a right turn onto the Fern Glen Connector and descend approximately 15 stories over the next three quarters of a mile until we meet back up with Grotpeter again and head to Kieffer Creek Road.
As we did last week, you’ll head left down Kieffer Creek Road back under the train tunnel and hang a left down the River Scene Trail. You’ll go past the parking lot and come around it on the Southeast side, avoiding any cars in the parking lot. The finish line will be directly in front of you in the open meadow!
Enjoy some Schlafly and Urban Chestnut Brewing Company Beer, some hot dogs and other refreshments at Race HQ following your race.
Approximate total distance of the race is 4 miles. Lowest elevation: 407 ft above sea level. Highest elevation: 633 ft.
