Race 3 is here, and we’re flipping the script again at Queeny Park. Same headquarters at the Smith Shelter — just follow the Weidman entrance, up the hill, left turn, park, and look for us in the northeast corner of the lot. You know the drill.
This week’s adventure clocks in at 3.69 miles with about 279 feet of climbing. Here’s the lay of the land:
Start downhill into the valley, swing past the Dog Park trail, then hook left onto familiar Owl Creek.
Grind out the longest climb of the race (just under three-quarters of a mile) – before a new twist — a right turn onto White Oak for a downhill cruise.
Brace yourself for the White Oak wall (yep, the same steep climb as last week). At the top, we swing left onto Hawk Ridge for a first-time visit to the park’s northeast corner.
Ride Hawk Ridge’s roller-coaster stretch, then cut back through the woods via the runner favorite “out of bounds” backwoods area to meet up with the grassy Connector Trail. Skirt to the left of the equestrian monument across Hawk Ridge, flip directions from Race 1, and drop down the narrow gravel path heading south.
Hawk Ridge brings you home… but don’t get comfy. You’ll circle past the parking lot before looping back around to the finish line — right into Race HQ. No post-race hill punishment this time.
