BALLWIN, MO. – Alpine Shop’s Trail Run Series concluded its 2013 affair with the traditional run up Castlewood State Park’s staircase to the top of the Meramec River bluffs on a 3.9 mile course on Thursday, August 29. More than 210 runners were registered for the fourth and final race of the series once again, bringing total participation for the four race series to a record total of 828 runners.
Mike Barro won his third race of the series – along with the Men’s Open Series Point total win – with a final time of 28:17. He was followed to the line by Matt Davidson just nine seconds later and women’s winner for the third time this series as well, Sunny Gilbert, with a final time of 28:47. Gilbert won all three races she participated in this year, however the Women’s Open Series Points title goes to 13-year-old Sloane Montgomery who finished in 23rd place overall and third in the women’s open division. Montgomery also finished in second place in the women’s open division each of the first three races giving her a total of 96 points, beating out Gilbert’s three-race total of 90.
In the Sage division, Eric Buckley took the men’s division series title with his fourth consecutive race win in the men’s over 50 division. Donna Dowell did the same on the women’s side.
