Series Point Totals Heading into Final Race – Women’s Race Could Be Tight Finish

This Thursday’s final run of the 2013 Alpine Shop Trail Run Series could feature some pretty high stakes for the overall series podium finishers. Below you’ll find the complete point totals for the Men’s and Women’s Open categories and the Sage standings for men and women over the age of 50. The top three finishers in each category will be awarded prizes from Alpine Shop and our sponsors.

The women’s Open category holds the most intrigue as the usual women’s favorite, Sunny Gilbert, missed last week’s run leaving her 15 points behind 13-year-old Sloane Montgomery who has taken second place in all three races so far this year. That means Montgomery can automatically take home the series title with anything better than a sixth place finish due to her 15 point lead. Gilbert could take home the title with her third victory of the series if Montgomery would fall to sixth place.

Mike Barro controls the Men’s Open category with a 24 point lead (85 total points) despite his second place finish to Brian Lyons last week. Barro’s closest point challengers are Chad Silker (61) and Dave Otto (54).

The Sage Categories are led by Eric Buckley and Donna Dowell both with 45 points for three wins. Buckley is also ninth overall in the Open category.

The race begins at 6 pm on Thursday, August 29 at Castlewood State Park. You can find more information on the course here.
