BALLWIN, Mo. – Alpine Shop’s 2014 Summer Trail Run Series, presented by Columbia Sportswear, capped off its four-run series with a 3.72 mile race that included Castlewood State Park’s famed Grand Staircase along with fantastic views of the Meramec River on the top of the bluffs. This race there were no fallen trees to concern ourselves with or flooded creeks, just the typical heat.
The series finale was no different than the preceding three races as Andy Koziatek (25:51.3) and Sunny Gilbert (27:00.2) completed their top spot sweeps and wrapped up the points totals as series champions. In continuing a Summer Series tradition, the Open series champions each received a down winter jacket to celebrate their win in the heat. This year’s prizes were win-them-before-you-can-buy-them Columbia Sportswear TurboDown coats featuring Omni-Heat Reflective technology. Masters’ champions Eric Buckley (28:25.1) and Jean Goldsberry (41:02.2) took home their own jackets as well.
