RESULTS – 05-31-16 | Marmot Trail Run Series Crowns Champions

castlewood-bluffs-05316BALLWIN, MO. – Castlewood State Park somehow dodged enough rain through a week marked by scattered shower after scattered shower, to host the final (and already rescheduled once) race of the 2016 Marmot Trail Run Series. More than 180 runners tackled a hot and a humid night along with Castlewood’s Grand Staircase to finally crown the men’s and women’s series champions in both the open and masters categories.

Caleb Brackett completed a dominating campaign on the approximately 4.3 mile course with a final time of 26:18.7, finishing exactly one minute ahead of his closest competitor throughout the month, Jack Wilkinson. Brackett took home the Marmot Minimalist Jacket as the top prize for this year’s Open division winners with a point total of 120 points for four victories. Wilkinson finished second overall with 100 points for four second-place finishes. Craig Maxwell finished in third place for the night (29:17.4), but Tony Kancijanic took the final spot on the podium for the month-long series with his 10th place finish and a final point total of 52.

On the women’s side, Sunny Gilbert competed in three races and won all three during the series, including a seventh-place overall finish on this night with a time of 30:42.5. Gilbert won the series title with 90 points. Katie O’Brien, fresh off a victory last Thursday, took second among the women in a time of 33:06.3, and second overall for the series with a final point total of 80. Mary White, third on the night in 33:31.5, was also third in the series, beating out the fourth place finisher on the evening and for the series, Jennifer Doyle, by one point 64-63.

For the men’s masters, Ron Haglof took home the evening’s best time along with the series title with a final time of 33:02. Haglof won the last three races of the month after finishing second in the opening race. He was followed by Jon Schoenecker (35:41.3) this evening as well as in the month. David Porter took home third in this rescheduled race #2, but finished one point out of the podium for the series behind the fifth place runner on Tuesday, Scott Schuyler (36:47.6).

Our thanks to all the runners who competed throughout the month of May with us. We’d also like to once again thank Marmot for their continued title sponsorship of the series, without which, we’d have a difficult time pulling off this event.
