Humid Conditions Lead to Challenging Third Race

BALLWIN, MO. – The humidity returned for at least one night, turning what had plotted out to be a similar course from last week into a sometimes challenging affair on Thursday, August 22, at the Alpine Shop Trail Run Series.

Even with a starting temperature in the high 80s, it was the humidity that was the story this evening. Combined with a course that ran slightly longer than we expected, this will go down as – by far – the toughest course of the 2013 series. Expect a much easier, but still challenging run for the finale next week.

Brian Lyons won for the first time this year, and for the 10th time since the series started in 2011, with a final time of 31.57 over the 4.7 mile course. Mike Barro, winner of the first two races of the 2013 series, took second in a time of 33.10.6, with Matt Roche following close behind in 33:27.8.

The women’s race features a new name at the top as Teresa Halton won the women’s open with a time of 42:08.1. 13-year-old Sloane Montgomery finished second in the category with a final time of 42:37.1 and 12-year-old Meredith Lang completed the youth movement with a third place finish in 45:06.6.

Complete results can be found here. Age group results are available here. Photos will be up as soon as we can upload them.

Our congratulations to all the finishers – and to everyone who came out and tried this week. Next week’s course will be announced on Monday afternoon, Aug. 26. Not signed up yet? Register here!
