2017 Battle the Bluff Trail Half Marathon Cancelled

I have the unfortunate responsibility of informing everyone who was registered for this event that we have had to cancel the 2017 Battle the Bluff Trail Half Marathon.

This isn’t due to weather or flood. Instead, it’s because of a forgotten email that went unnoticed as my department dealt with an unexpected employee change earlier this year. Simply and humbly put, we’re embarrassed to say we don’t have the necessary permit to run this Sunday.

I can’t apologize to you enough. This type of mistake shouldn’t happen. Unfortunately, it was only discovered earlier this week as we went through (what we believed to be) our final confirmations with the Forest Service. Despite exhausting every avenue we can think of, there is just no way for us to shorten the six-month permit process to put on this event this weekend or at any time in 2017.

This is the first time this has ever happened with one of our events and we have already taken steps to make sure it can’t happen again.

This is our fault. We want to make it right.

If you have already signed up for this event, you should receive an email from us on Wednesday, September 20 detailing the ways we are working to make this right for you.

If you were still considering running the race and had not signed up, we just want to make sure you do not arrive at Council Bluff Lake on Sunday.

In the meantime, again, please accept my apologies and feel free to contact me below through the comments on this page or by emailing me at toswald (@) alpineshop.com
